I’ve always promoted the importance of CPD, but when the General Pharmacy Council confirmed that ongoing training would become a regulatory requirement for all pharmacy professionals, it became clear to me that we had a bigger task on our hands.

Thinking beyond the 30 people i coach ( or so) , I wanted to provide everyone with a CPD facility to encourage and track their personal learning and development progress. That’s when I turned to developing bespoke CPD modules.

The Island Pharmacy is an evolution of this in Mauritius. I already knew that the CPD platform was modern, functional and could help take Mauritius pharmacy professionals to the next level. The Pharmacy Council's approval gave all 600 or so colleagues access to this CPD portal, as well as professional recognition and a wide range of additional benefits.


Because of its user-friendliness, the Island Farmacy CPD platform is a popular option. If you sign up for and finish a continuing education course, for instance, the necessary paperwork will be taken care of for you. All you have to do is log in, complete an activity, and submit an assessment to have your CPD points sent automatically to the Pharmacy Council at the end of each calendar month.

 

It is possible and likely that the system's "seminar" or "webinar" courses will help people remember information and get used to new ways of doing things. Additional 'impact' credits are awarded, similar to 'learning,' if it can be shown that behaviour has changed, and the CPD total can improve further if the changes have a positive impact on routine procedures. All of this information can be recorded easily through the portal, and supplementary materials like learning logs and certificates can be uploaded in under two minutes.

It's not always the training itself that is ineffective; rather, it's the lack of follow-up on trainees' progress that causes many companies to fail.
